Why Would I Upgrade to a CxC Report?

Thursday | November 11, 2021 | by Kaitlin Ramby

CxC

You’re probably aware that there are several evaluation types that you can choose from at WES. But did you know that people often order more than one type? Sometimes, people start by ordering a Document-by-Document (DxD) report and then they add a Course-by-Course (CxC) report, as well.

There are many reasons that someone might want to do this. For example, if you are immigrating to Canada, then you will likely need an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). An ECA is required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). However, an ECA only evaluates your highest-earned credential. Therefore, if you want all of your credentials and degrees evaluated, then you will need to add a CxC. (The admissions office might ask for this if you want to go back to school once you move to Canada.) This is just one reason for having both types of reports.

Thankfully, no matter what your reason may be, once you have sent all of your academic documents to WES, it is easy to order a different evaluation type. That’s because you don’t need to start all over again. If your upgrade is being used in the same country as your original order, then you simply need to order your upgrade to add a CxC.

Additionally, in many cases, you can make that decision at any time. You can upgrade during your evaluation process or once your first evaluation is complete. We enable flexible decision-making by keeping your documents and files on record.

In this post, we explore a few more reasons to consider upgrading your evaluation to a CxC.

Overview of the Evaluation Types (with Images)

First, let’s review both of the primary evaluation types we’ll discuss:

Document-by-Document (DxD)

A DxD report identifies, describes, and provides the U.S. or Canadian equivalency for each degree that you submit. It is most often used for immigration and employment purposes.

You can see a sample of a DxD evaluation here.

Course-by-Course (CxC)

A Course-by-Course evaluation provides the  U.S. or Canadian equivalency for each credential you have earned. This evaluation gives a much more detailed analysis of each course listed on your transcript. You will receive the U.S. or Canadian equivalency of your semester credits, grades, credit hours, and GPA.

Reasons to Upgrade to a CxC Report

Each year, thousands of our applicants upgrade their DxD reports with a CxC report from WES. It’s very popular to have a comprehensive overview of your international education. Plus, you might want to feel prepared to pursue every opportunity that you come across in the U.S. or Canada.

Below are three of the top reasons that people upgrade to a Course-by-Course report.

  1. You are returning to school to complete a degree

If you are transferring to a new school in order to finish your previous or current program, then you might need a CxC. The U.S. or Canadian institution will need to thoroughly assess the courses that you have completed thus far (and your performance in those classes).

This prevents you from repeating courses, but it also proves that you are a good student. That makes you an excellent candidate for them to accept, because they will be confident that you will excel once you relocate to their school.

WES does provide evaluation reports for in-progress and incomplete degree programs.

  1. You’re applying for a professional license

Licensing boards in the U.S. and Canada often require a CxC. If you earned some or all of your credentials abroad, but want to apply for a license in the U.S. or Canada, then you might need to verify your international credentials to prove that you meet the requirements.

However, you should contact your local licensing board to confirm their requirements before applying for a credential evaluation, since they are not standard between industries or countries.

  1. You’re applying to a postgraduate program

If you have decided to apply to a postgraduate degree program in the U.S. or Canada, then you will likely need to upgrade to a CxC. However, be sure to check with the institution and confirm their credential evaluation requirements. Most will ask for a more in-depth overview of your past academic achievements than a DxD in order to assess whether you meet admission requirements.

Final Thoughts

To upgrade your DxD report to a CxC, it will cost $100 USD. In most cases, you will not need to send new documents for an upgrade. To learn if you will need to send additional documents, however, you can Contact Us.

But this can only be done within the same country where you’re using your current report. For example, if you previously ordered an ECA for Canada (which resulted in a DxD), and you’re interested in getting a CxC that showcases your equivalencies in the United States, then you can’t get an upgrade; you will need to order a new report.

If you have decided to add a CxC to help you get ahead in the U.S. or Canada, then the next step is to upgrade your report.
