WES Credential Evaluation and Document Requirements for India

WES Staff | May 20, 2026

Obtaining a credential evaluation from World Education Services (WES) can be an important step when emigrating from India to the United States or Canada. To ensure that the credential evaluation process is completed as seamlessly as possible, carefully follow all the instructions provided in your WES account. However, if you still have questions, this blog post might offer additional guidance.

Keep reading for answers to frequently asked questions about how WES evaluates Indian credentials.

Does WES evaluate secondary or post-secondary qualifications?

WES evaluates all levels of education, from secondary to post-doctoral study. We also evaluate formal education studies, including research-based programs.

WES has evaluated documents for thousands of individuals who studied in India. If you attended a duly authorized and recognized institution, it is likely that WES can evaluate your credentials.

Does WES evaluate research-based programs, and what documents are required for such evaluations across different education levels?

Yes, WES evaluates formal education studies, including research-based programs. For these evaluations, WES requires the degree certificate and supporting documentation.

Additionally, WES evaluates all levels of education from secondary study to post-doctoral programs.

What documents are required for evaluation if I studied in India?

WES accepts both consolidated transcripts and yearly mark sheets, provided they are issued by degree-granting institutions and sent to us in a sealed envelope. Institutions can also send documents electronically once they establish a digital partnership with WES.

If you have a master’s degree, the following criteria will help you determine if you also need to send your bachelor’s degree documents:

  • You do NOT need to send your bachelor’s degree documents if you have one of the following master’s degrees: Master of Education, Master of Engineering, Master of Philosophy, Master of Technology, Master of Nursing, or Master of Pharmacy.
  • If you have a master’s degree from India, but it is not one of the degrees noted above, you MUST also submit your bachelor’s degree documents. Apart from the master’s degrees specified above, WES cannot evaluate your master’s degree without the bachelor’s degree.

If you received a master’s degree outside of India, you will probably not need to send your bachelor’s degree documents. Our evaluators will contact you if they need further documentation to complete your evaluation.

How do I send the required documents to WES?

If your institution will not send documents directly to WES, you may be able to send your documents yourself in sealed envelopes provided by your institution. Please check our Required Documents webpage for specific instructions.

You can also encourage your institution to initiate a digital partnership with WES. Digital partners transmit documents to WES electronically, a more secure option. To learn more, an official from your institution can Contact Us.

National Skill Development Corporation: Applicants can upload their documents to their NSDC digital wallet. NSDC will then proceed to verify the academic records. The use of credential depositories enables automated verification. When central depositories are not available, NSDC relies on an extensive, trusted verification network. Once the verification process is complete, NSDC transmits the documents to WES through a secure, encrypted channel. This leads to shorter turnaround times and a better customer experience

Qualification Check: Once you obtain your WES reference number, visit the QC website to sign up and begin the verification process.

What happens after WES receives my documents?

When your documents arrive at WES, they are carefully reviewed and uploaded into our system. In many cases, we can accept electronic documents directly from your academic institution. Direct transmission streamlines this step.

Once your documents are received, our case analysts ensure that they are complete and submitted as required. After reviewing your documents, analysts determine whether they are approved and ready to move forward to the next stage. Occasionally, we request additional verification of documents. We do this to maintain the integrity of our credential evaluation process. Our goal is to evaluate documents accurately and confirm that each one is valid. Because of our rigorous authentication practices, many academic institutions, licensing bodies, and immigration authorities trust credential evaluations from WES.

Once all documents are received, reviewed, and authenticated, we can begin your evaluation. After the evaluation is produced, our specialists review the draft of your evaluation report and make any necessary changes. Once it has been approved and finalizedthe report is printed and mailed or electronically delivered. A watermarked copy of your report will also be available in your WES account upon completion.

Is there anything else I should know about receiving a WES evaluation of my Indian education?

To save time and prevent WES from having to require further documentation, please ensure that your documents are clear, legible, and complete.

Include a copy of your degree certificate or provisional certificate and all years of the marksheets.

Note that required documents vary depending on your specific credentials and the institutions you attended, so be sure to check our Required Documents webpage.
