International Students
International students enrich Canada’s post-secondary institutions, communities, and economy. WES is working to ensure that students are informed and supported, with fair access to education, transparent immigration pathways, and stronger institutional systems to help them thrive.
International Student Immigration Information Report
International students bring global perspectives and economic value to Canada, but many face barriers accessing clear, accurate, immigration information. Based on focus groups with 80 students, this report reveals that navigating work permits and permanent residence pathways is often overwhelming, with no single reliable source of guidance. WES outlines ways to improve access to trustworthy information through clearer government communications, stronger support from education institutions, and greater accountability for education agents.
International Student Policy Brief
Canada’s international student system offers broad benefits—but recent policy reforms have left serious vulnerabilities. International students face rising tuition costs and insufficient support, and their pathways to permanent residence have been disrupted. WES is working to strengthen accountability across the sector: to include more transparent recruitment practices, improved student services, and protections for those affected by policy changes. Our policy brief calls for coordinated action around recruitment, support, and retention so that Canada can remain a top destination for global talent.
