5 Effective Tools for Time Management

Kaitlin Ramby | September 20, 2016

As a student, you are constantly juggling multiple things at once. Between exams, projects, group meetings, and extracurricular activities, you need to ensure that you are managing your time effectively, and there are many online tools and apps out there that can help.

Below are five effective time management tools:

1. Google Drive

In order to have a Google Drive account, all you need to do is create an email account in Gmail. Google Drive lets you create and upload documents, and organize all of your materials in one place. One of the biggest benefits to Google Drive is the ability to share documents with other people for live collaboration. With Drive, you can take advantage of all the apps in the Google suite, and the best part is that it is free!

2. Evernote

With Evernote, you never have to forget anything ever again. Evernote is a note-taking app that you can download on any of your devices to keep track of your to-do lists, write down things in the moment, and keep track of ideas all in one place. Users can also save any link or image into the app, so they always have access to it. So start organizing your thoughts in Evernote, and discover just how handy an online notebook can be.

3. Toggl

Toggl is very helpful for keeping track of how much time you spend on projects. With Toggl, you can set a timer while you work on a project and it will be able to give you the total amount of time spent at the end of that project. You can organize items in Toggl however you like: by project, by class, or however you choose. In the end, you have a clear view of how much time you dedicated to specific items, and see where you can improve your efficiency.

4. StayFocused

Are you the kind of person that sits down to work, only to be easily distracted by sites like Facebook and Pinterest? StayFocused is a plug-in for your web browser that helps to solve this problem. You can set a timer, and StayFocused will block any sites you ask it to that you tend to waste the most time on.

5. Prezi

With Prezi, you can create and share presentations across multiple types of devices. It is a more “hip” version of PowerPoint that offers a new kind of presentation experience through easy-to-use templates and good quality graphics. Prezi makes collaboration with your teams easier, and the outcome will be a good presentation that (hopefully) gets people to notice.

Even if you feel that you are not great at managing your time, there are multiple online programs to help you become more organized and always know what your highest priorities are. Just take it one step at a time. Start by maybe downloading the Evernote app on your phone and see how you like it after a few days, or create a Gmail account and begin uploading documents to Google Drive that need to be organized.

Are there any helpful apps you use to keep yourself on track when it comes to time management? Share this article on social media and add your own!
