| • | Why does WES ask for photocopies of my educational documents and not the originals? Aren’t my original documents better?
Professional practices have been developed that allow your education to be validated without the direct need of original documents. Such practices include the submission of photocopies in the ways specified on the India Required Documents web page. When these instructions are followed, WES is able to make an evaluation while the original documents remain safe in your possession. Please do not send your originals as WES cannot guarantee that they will be returned to you. |
| • | Who is responsible for paying to have mark sheets and degree certificates attested?
It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to pay for any fees associated with the requesting and/or attesting of academic documents. |
| • | How do I contact my institution or the appropriate state board?
Below are several links to assist you in finding contact information:
- Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
- All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)
- Boards of Secondary and Senior Secondary Education |
| • | Why does WES require university-issued/attested marks sheets and not my college-issued/attested marks sheets?
WES requires that all marks sheets be issued and attested by the Controller of Examinations or Registrar of the university that your college is affiliated with because it is the universities that are responsible for administering the examinations and awarding the final degrees. |
| • | Why does WES accept mark sheets attested by autonomous colleges?
While they do not award final degrees, an autonomous college has a much higher level of control over the design and structure of its curriculum and assessment methods. Because of this, marks sheets attested by these colleges alone are acceptable. To check if the college you attended has autonomous status click here. |
| • | My marks sheets have been attested by the Controller of Examinations or Registrar at my university but are not in a sealed envelope. Can I submit them?
No. Adhering to North American standards, if attested marks sheets are not sealed in an official envelope by the appropriate school authority, the authenticity of the document will be in question causing a delay or even cancellation of your evaluation. |
| • | For nursing and midwifery diploma programs, why does WES require marks sheets from both the state nursing board/council and the nursing school I attended?
Marks sheets issued by the appropriate state nursing board/council are required because they are solely responsible for administering examinations leading to the Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery. However, since board issued marks sheets do not indicate instruction and clinical experience in terms of hours, WES also requires that you submit marks sheets issued by the nursing school you attended. Without both records, WES will not be able to make a complete and accurate evaluation. |
| • | Why does WES require board-issued mark sheets for higher/intermediate secondary education (e.g. 10+2 certificate)?
WES requests that secondary educational documents be issued and attested by the national or state examination boards themselves and will NOT accept secondary school certificates that are attested by a school or college official (e.g. principal). The reason for this is that while schools and colleges offer instruction and prepare students for examinations, it is the examination boards (e.g. Central Board of Secondary Education) that administer the examinations and issue final certificates. |
| • | My marks sheets do not list complete paper titles. How does WES know the exact course names and the content of courses I have taken?
If you are requesting a course-by-course evaluation it is important to have complete paper titles stated on your evaluation report. If your marks sheets do not list course titles, please include with your attested marks sheets complete titles and/or course descriptions that correspond to the courses on the marks sheets. This information is commonly found as an appendage to your marks sheets or in the curriculum brochure/prospectus. |
