No American city has been more central to the immigrant experience, or benefited more from successive generations of newcomers, than New York. Representing more than one-third (37%) of the population, immigrants are an integral part – and source of top global talent – for New York and its economy.
Nonetheless, immigrants do face special challenges such as gaining recognition of their education and work experience earned abroad, becoming familiar with local employment and education programs and resources, improving their English, and so on.
