Korea

Korean Council for University Education (KCUE)

An assessment and ranking of universities was carried out by the Korean Council for University Education, an umbrella group for Korean four-year universities, and published by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources in 2005. The report and rankings were based on the University General Assessment, a series of inspections carried out in 2004. This ranking represents the first time the ministry has made such information publicly available.

The evaluation considered management, student/faculty ratio, research performance, and student satisfaction. It was conducted across three fields of study: mechanical engineering; biology and biotechnology; and mass communications, advertising and public relations.

Results

Overall

* The top four universities are considered to constitute the “top university group.” Inclusion in this group requires an overall score of 95 or better.

Mechanical Engineering

Based on an evaluation of 81 universities.

Biology and Biotechnology

Based on an evaluation of 75 universities.

Mass Communications, Advertising and Public Relations

Based on an evaluation of 58 universities.
