FranceOn this page: Commercial Rankings: Le Point magazine produces an annual ranking of engineering schools, categorized under three categories: post-baccalaureate schools, schools that require two years of preparatory classes (classes préparatoires) for entry (grandes écoles), and “life and earth science” schools. MethodologyThe Le Point rankings are based on information taken from a number of different data and survey-based sources. All schools recognized by the Commission des Titres D’Igénieurs (CTI) were sent a questionnaire. Of the approximately 240 schools contacted, just over 130 responded. Extra information for those institutions was then gathered from a number of other sources. These include information on revenue generation, information from study guides and subjective opinion from recruiters, the CTI and higher education experts. The two main criteria used to assess institutions were: teaching quality and professional opportunities. The results for the two criteria were expressed in two separate tables and were also combined to form one general ranking. Teaching quality indicators include: student visa issuances for foreign students, entry requirements, teacher ratio, number of doctored professors, research output per professor, foreign partnership agreement, foreign student intake and average times spent abroad by domestic students, and number of exchange agreements. Professional opportunity indicators include: annual research contracts and income generation, number of external consultants offering courses, internship opportunities, job prospects, and alumni contributions.
