Resources and Training
WES actively shares its expertise on international education systems with community partners, helping them to better assess, advise and serve their immigrant clients. With a clear understanding of an individual’s credentials, agency staff and volunteers can help newcomers pursue pathways to employment, professional licensing or certification and/or further academic study at the appropriate level. Services provided to community agencies include:
International Degree Preview Tool: Through a simple look-up directory, WES provides instant equivalencies for post-secondary degrees earned in more than 100 countries. Accurate equivalency information enables immigrants to understand how their academic credentials are viewed in the U.S. and is the first step to gaining recognition for their hard-earned academic accomplishments.
Resources: WES publishes extensive resources on international educational systems, institutions and degrees on its web site. Among these are a grade conversion guide and a monthly online newsletter. WES also maintains a community service "help desk" to answer questions about overseas degrees and education.
Training: WES training focuses on practical "nuts and bolts" issues related to foreign credential evaluation and best practices in advising and supporting educated immigrants. Sessions are designed to help staff and volunteers gain essential knowledge and access key information and resources that they can use in their daily interactions and counseling efforts. For example, WES can help school district personnel assess and place recently arrived students or provide an introduction to foreign credential evaluation resources for staff and volunteers at community organizations or refugee resettlement agencies.
