ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

Elementary education is free and compulsory for all children in Sri Lanka.  The curriculum of the primary cycle is largely integrated.
 
Sinhala and Tamil are official languages, and English is the link language.  The medium of instruction in school is generally Sinhala or Tamil.  English is taught starting from Grade IV.
