ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

- Although elementary education (or primary, as it is known
in Pakistan) is not compulsory, it is free. The primary stage includes grades
1 to 5. The language of instruction is either Urdu or the regional language.
Where the regional language of instruction is used, Urdu is introduced in
grade 3. The curriculum includes
study in reading, writing, arithmetic, general science, social studies,
religious studies, and physical education.
