- HIGHER
EDUCATION
-
- Admission Requirements
- Admission to higher education is, in most cases, automatic for
students entering from the institution's own bachillerato programme. In other instances, students are admitted on the basis of
completion of the bachillerato (academic or technical) and an entrance examination.
-
- Undergraduate
Programme
- The first full-length undergraduate degree is known as the
licenciatura (Licentiate). The holders of such degrees are referred to as
Licenciado(Licentiate). For professional titles, designation of
the holder of a degree derives from the field of specialization (e.g. Abogado (lawyer). Graduation requirements include; successful
completion of all course work, a thesis, a period of social service and a professional examination.
-
- Postgraduate
Programmes
- Especialización (Specialization). The length of these
programmes varies from one to four years (generally offered in dentistry, medicine, law, engineering, education, etc.)
-
The Maestría (Master's degree) is typically one to two years of
course work and research. A thesis defense and a professional examination are also required.
-
The Doctorado (Doctorate) is the highest degree awarded in
Mexico. Course work, research and a dissertation are required.
