ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

 
Elementary education is free and compulsory.  Once children enter elementary school, they automatically advance to the next year grade each year.  The elementary school curriculum is set nationally, but has been subjected to frequent changes.

ASSESSMENT AND PROMOTION
Students are continuously assessed through coursework and examination, although grade progression is automatic.
 
GRADING SCALE
There is no standardized grading system in use at elementary schools.  Schools may use an “A” through “E” scale with a grade of  “D” being the lowest passing grade and “E” representing failure. In addition the following numerical scale may be used:
