Assessment and Promotion:
All pupils are assessed at the start of their first year at a lycée. Upon successful completion of the lycée level, students receive the Diplôme du Baccalauréat Général (Diploma of General Baccalaureate). Students must receive an average score of 10 or above on the baccalauréat examination, which is taken the last year of upper-secondary level, in order to obtain this qualification.

Vocational lycées offer pupils two-year courses leading to a certificat d'aptitude professionnelle (CAP) or a brevet d'études professionelles (BEP). After two further years of study, a baccaulauréat professionnel (vocational baccalaureate) is awarded. It is intended to qualify holders for entry into the working world, but may also enable them to continue their studies.

Vocational / Technical Education
Most vocational training is done through lycées, although a number of instituts universitaires de technologie - IUTs (University Institutes of Technology) have been established in the last few decades.

Age of Admission:
Age 15

Length:
Two years

Assessment and Promotion:
The assessment of pupils in vocational training is mainly based on a combination of separate terminal and continuous assessment tests, taking account of the training in the professional context. Successful completion of a two-year program at an IUT results in a diplôme universitaire de technologie (DUT). Completion of the lycée program results in a brevet de technicien supérieur (BTS).
