UPPER-SECONDARY EDUCATION (EDUCACION MEDIA VOCACIONAL)

15-16
Length
Two years, grades 10-11.
Institution Type
Secondary schools are usually referred to as colegios although there are some liceos and institutos.  Private schools represent 50 percent of all secondary schools in Columbia and tend to focus more on academic programmes leading to higher education.
General Upper Secondary
Academic programmes are designed to prepare students for higher education.  There are two types of academic streams/specializations: science and humanities.
Professional, Vocational and Technical Education
Technical/vocational programmes are offered in the following specializations: industrial, commercial, pedagogical and agricultural. These programmes are designed to prepare students  for upper secondary education as well as  employment in their selected field of specialization.

Assessment and Promotion
Follows the same guidelines as in lower secondary education.
Degrees and Certificates
Students who successfully complete upper-secondary education, receive the title of Bachiller in their  specialized field.
Grading Scale
The grading scale for secondary education is as follows:

9.0-10.0 A
8.0-8.9 B
6.0-7.9 C
5.9-0 F
