Admission Requirements
- Students
must receive a Bachiller and pass an entrance examination, the examen
del estado (national exam), in order to be granted admission into an
institution of higher education.

Colombia there are a large number of universities and university-level
institutions, including technological
institutes and professional schools.

- Formación intermedia profesional (Post-secondary technical
education) leads to the Título de Técnico (Title of
technician). This programme is typically
two years in length.
- Formación
tecnológica (Post-secondary technological education) leads to the
Título de
Tecnólogo (Title of Technologist). This programme is
typically three years in length.

- Formación universitaria (University education)
leads to the Título de Licenciado (Title of Licentiate)
in teacher training or other corresponding professions, e.g. Título de Ingeniero
(Title of
Engineer). These programmes vary in length
from seven to twelve semesters.

- Formación
de postgrado (Graduate education) includes programmes leading to professional
degrees: Título de Especialista (Title of Specialist). This
title can be earned after one year of study.
Grado de Magister (Master's Degree), usually two years
in length and the Título de Doctor (Title of Doctor).
