LOWER SECONDARY EDUCATION
 
 

 
Structure:
Lower secondary education is usually three years in length, although it can be four years depending on the type of primary school attended.  Education is compulsory through ninth grade or age 15, whichever comes first.  Vocational/technical programmes are also offered at the lower-secondary level.

Assessment and Promotion:
Students are assessed through examinations developed by education departments and commissions at the provincial, autonomous region, and municipal level.
 
Grading Scale:
Most schools follow either the A-F scale found in Canada or the 1-100 scale.
