ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

Elementary education, known as “primary” in Bangladesh, begins at the age of six. The language of instruction is Bangla. There are three types of elementary schools: government elementary school, registered non-government elementary schools and community schools.  Generally, elementary schools are administered in two shifts: morning and afternoon. The curriculum is standard throughout the country.

ASSESSMENT AND PROMOTION
No formal assessment exists at the elementary level of education. Promotion from one grade to another is based on internal examinations given at the end of each year, beginning in class II.
