- About the World Education Profiles (WEP)
- World Education Data-Base (WEP) is an online Profiles containing education profiles from selected countries worldwide. WEP includes essential information of each country’s elementary school, secondary school, and higher education systems, as well as Ontario grading conversions, and suggested grade-by-grade Ontario Secondary School equivalencies.
WEP currently features twenty-five researched country profiles. These countries were selected for their usefulness to Ontario school boards based on information received from them and a review of immigration statistics for Ontario.
- WEP is a meant to be a tool for guidance counselors, admissions officers, educators and community partners to use in placing foreign students into the Ontario educational system. Based on extensive research on each country, WEP offers information such as:
Basic country facts
Overview of the educational system
Specific information on the elementary and secondary system such as courses taught and hours of instruction at each grade
Information about teacher education
Information about higher education
- WEP is designed not as a "prescription" for any given situation, but rather as a guideline or framework to assist school placement personnel to place the student. WES recommends that users of this Profiles also apply their own discretion when assessing the student's competency. It is meant to facilitate the integration of immigrants to the Ontario educational system.
