What is credential evaluation?
Most licensing bodies reviewing candidates holding international credentials require that they submit a credential evaluation
to demonstrate their academic preparation and determine their eligibility for licensing or certification. World Education
Services (WES) offers a range of special services to meet the needs of licensing bodies that receive applications from
internationally educated candidates.
WES is the only evaluation service that can send the verified academic credentials along with the WES evaluation report to licensing bodies.
When candidates order the WES ICAP: International Credential Advantage Package your licensing organization will receive the complete
package electronically or by mail.
A WES credential evaluation enables licensing bodies to understand the exact nature and equivalency of the international academic credentials submitted. Importantly, it also provides verification of the authenticity of the credentials submitted.
WES is the leading credential evaluation service in the North America. It employs over 100 professionals, from more than 30 countries around the world who are sensitive to concerns of an internationally-educated clientele and licensing bodies that work with them. The WES evaluators have extensive experience and training in Canadian, U.S. and international education systems and many on our team are recognized authorities in their fields.
How does a credential evaluation work?
- A licensing body refers an applicant with a degree from outside Canada to WES for an evaluation.
- A WES evaluator is assigned who then verifies all required and relevant documents.
- The credentials are then evaluated through various criteria including:
- Admissions requirements
- Education level
- Type of institution
- Objective of educational program
- Information measured against Canadian standards
- All grades and courses converted to Canadian equivalents
- Evaluation reviewed by senior evaluators
- Completed evaluation sent to applicant and to professional licensing body within 7 days from receipt of all required documents, fees and application
- Licensing body can make its decision regarding eligibility with confidence, knowing that the WES evaluation report accurately reflects the candidate’s academic performance.
- Verified transcripts included with evaluation reports with WES ICAP service
WES conducts extensive research on education systems and evaluation methodology and is part of a global network
that assures access to up-to-date information on international higher education.
WES evaluations are prepared on our Automated International Credential Evaluation System (AICES). This custom-built database currently contains information on more than 200 countries and other jurisdictions,
nearly 20,000 credentials and 45,000 academic institutions from all over the world. The WES evaluation database is maintained and updated on an on-going basis by a dedicated team of information specialists.
To keep abreast of developments in education, WES maintains close communications and cooperates with academic institutions, ministries of education and other educational authorities all over the world.
