Credentialing of Non-Canadian Academic Credentials
for the Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools, Ministry of Education, British Columbia
British Columbia’s Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools requires applicants whose post-secondary
education was completed overseas to have their international transcripts and credential(s) assessed by a
recognized credential assessment agency. World Education Services (WES) is one of the agencies whose
services are recognized by and acceptable to the Inspector.
Credentialing assessment means converting international academic credentials into their Canadian educational
equivalents. Provision of the WES assessment does not replace the requirement for official transcripts
to be submitted to the Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools.
Applicants for British Columbia independent school teacher certification are required to request a
Course-by-Course evaluation report of their international academic credentials. This report provides
a breakdown of all post-secondary study in terms of Canadian credits, grade equivalents, and grade
point average. However, the Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools reserves the right to apply
its own evaluation.
Please note the following for BC independent school teacher certification as required by the Office of
the Inspector of Independent Schools:
- a sealed transcript(s) is sent directly to WES from the issuing post-secondary institution; and,
- assessments are sent directly to the Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools.
(In the WES Application Form, please indicate the address to which you would like the second free
copy of the evaluation report to be mailed.)
To contact WES by phone, call (416) 972-0070 or 1-866-343-0070.
