About WES
For the past 30 years, World Education Services (WES) has been at the forefront of international credential evaluation, helping immigrants and foreign students alike to make the often difficult transition to a new environment by providing fair, accurate and reliable evaluations of foreign academic credentials. Each evaluation report completed by WES facilitates the integration of the applicant into the academic and professional systems of the United States and Canada. This has always been the mission of WES as a not-for-profit and 501-C-3 service-based organization.
With more than 100 full-time employees, WES is the largest international credential evaluation service in the United States and Canada, processing applications from virtually every country in the world. WES was established in 1974 and maintains its headquarters in New York City. Additional WES offices are located in Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. We also administer a separate Canadian evaluation service in Toronto. (For more information, please visit
WES Canada).
WES is governed by an independent board of trustees. Trustees hail from diverse professional backgrounds and hold prominent positions in business, higher education and the not-for-profit sector. The board functions to help guide WES in carrying out its overall mission.
The core product of our organization is credential evaluation. In 2004 alone, WES processed over 50,000 evaluations from more than 150 countries and provided reports to 2,300 institutions of higher education in the United States and Canada.
Our credential evaluators are accomplished professionals with extensive experience and training in US-and-international education systems. WES staff members are recognized authorities in their field who have authored numerous publications and articles about credential evaluation and education in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.
WES is a culturally and ethnically diverse organization. Our staff members represent more than 30 countries around the world and are sensitive to the issues and concerns of our foreign-educated international clientele. Members of the WES staff speak such languages as Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Persian, Russian, and Spanish (to name but a few).
WES works with individual applicants as well as with educational institutions, attorneys, businesses, and licensing agencies providing credential evaluations for:
- university admission and placement
- employment
- professional licensing and certification
- immigration
WES conducts extensive research on education systems and evaluation methodology, and prides itself on being a global network of accurate and up-to-date information on international higher education. In addition, WES staff is available to assist other organizations and institutions with their international education research needs.
WES maintains a state-of-the-art credential evaluation database, known as AICES, which currently stores information on 45,075 foreign academic institutions, 214 countries and jurisdictions, 19,776 credentials, and 1,541 grading scales. The AICES and online application systems have enabled WES to more effectively and more efficiently fulfill its mission to service greater numbers of applicants and to efficiently deliver a quality product.
In addition to credential evaluations, WES fulfills its mission by providing training workshops for admissions professionals. Each year WES schedules a nation-wide series of one- and two-day workshops for professionals in international education.
WES also offers a variety of online education resources through its Web site. These include the WES
Grade Conversion Guide, which features suggested grade conversions for higher education in more than 120 countries, and
World Education Profiles. WES also publishes
World Education News & Reviews (WENR), the definitive news source on comparative international education. With a growing readership of more than 6,000, WENR features articles, news and information geared towards higher education professionals.
